Sucker?

Twice before I swore off Crank Brothers Egg Beaters and went back to Time ATACs. First time the pedal body came off the spindle...on both sides! Then the retention bars got all wonky and would release at the most inopportune times. CB was going to charge me to repair them. I don't mind routine maintenance, but having to send them back and be charged for something I don't feel should wear out was a bit much for me.

But when they work the work well, best pedals in the snow, and they are so darn light. This year they redesigned them adding a needle bearing to replace the spindle bushing and improving the retention bars, and they are so pretty, and I hope I won't regret this...

Can I have your Atacs? ;)

I avoided the Eggbeaters for the bushing bearings alone. Why throw a few percent of your power away in cheap pedal design? We'll have to see how the new design holds up.

MMcG, Absolutely not!

Hill Junkie,
You're a Shimano man right? I swore off Shimano due to their poor performance in the snow, and non-releasing when the cleats were worn, but that was 16 years ago.

How tight are the springs on the eggbeaters? I like to be locked in tight, even while using major body english. Ease of release is not a concern. This alone has kept me from trying the eggbeaters. Atacs lock tight but are expensive as shit for a pedal that lasts like 3 months....

Monte,
Whachewtalkinbout Willis?
I have 3 pairs of ATACs, all over 10 years old. I retired my pair from '94 in '97 after one of the axles began to strip. My only problem with them is they are heavy...real heavy.
Eggbeaters are pretty tight when new, and hopefully the new design will maintain that snugness. The old design would get sloppy after a couple of years.

You must have the atac alum. The ones im using are the atac xs, lighter but not as durable.

But....I'm still using them.
